In the meantime, I think I have Narrowed Down My Search to Three Places that I Really Like. We will be Married on A Thursday Night because it is More Affordable and Happily Hip. (Seriously, I Googled “Thursday Night Wedding” and came up with not One but Two Articles from The New York Times about How Thursday Was The New It-Night To Get Married!) My Number One Choice is The Oviatt Penthouse,

In the past week, I must have been to A Million Places. It is Funny to me How Awful some people can be at Selling Their Venue. I went to one place where I was kept waiting for Over 35 Minutes. The Wedding Coordinator somewhere else didn’t know what A Chuppa Was. (A Chuppa is A Canopy that Jews Marry Under.) At another place, The Woman In Charge rattled off A Long List of All The Things I Would Not Be Allowed To Do If I Rented The Space, one of which was The Inability For Guests At My Wedding To Consume Red Wine unless I Signed A Waiver and left A $1000 Security Deposit and I would be Charged $.63 Per Champagne Glass because “They Break All The Time.” Also, she claimed to have Never Heard of A Cocktail Hour at A Wedding Reception and told me it would be My Responsibility To Make Sure Guests Didn’t Place Drinks On The Grand Piano Which Was In The Middle Of The Room And Could Not Be Moved, Nor Used and I could Use A Wedding Coordinator only if The Wedding Coordinator understood She Was In Charge And Not The Wedding Coordinator. I crossed That Place right off My List.
The Goal is to have A Date and A Place by The End Of The Year. Come January, I will be So Busy with Work On The Big Play, I won’t have Time to Plan A Wedding. I am really hoping We Will Make Our Decision by Next Week.
My Hope? Vegas, Baby. Vegas.

I know several people who got married at Inn of the Seventh Ray and really loved it. I was in a boat wedding too. It was okay, but yeah, the decor was late 80's-ish. And since you're getting married so I must throw in my 2 cents, I loved this place but it was too small for us: http://www.herecomestheguide.com/location/detail/malibu-nature-preserve
Wait, you mean to tell me that not everyone who lives in LA is connected to famous people who, upon hearing you're getting married, immediately offers up their mansion to you as a venue? Shocker!
I have no advice about venues. My only advice is that TAF wear REALLY sturdy shoes when he stamps on the glass - my cousin had a shard go right through his shoe and slice his foot. Of course being that we're jews there were several doctors on hand to fix him up, but still.
I will just send you vibes that the right place will find you before 2008.
Oooh, all nice choices! I haven't been to either, but I hear great things about the Oviatt and Inn at the Seventh Ray. I'm sure whatever you decide will be lovely.
They look like gret choices. Good luck with the venue hunting. Max and I got married on Thursday night. I had no idea we were being so fashion forward!
I did Vegas...almost 13 years ago...and HIGHLY recommend it. Granted, I did more of an eloping type thing and only had 7 other people in attendance. Good luck!
Good luck!
As you know, I heart the Vegas, and it can be done tres classy. Je promis!
I still say the guy on Van Nuys Blvd. where I got my mom's medical power of atty notarized is the way to go. He had a chuppa, is licensed to perform weddings, and best of all -- there's a really good Chinese food place next door!
The lady didn't know about cocktail hour before the reception???? That's sad, given that I'm from one of the most backward areas on Earth and we know all about cocktail hour! Of course, ours started at funerals and eventually moved to weddings.
Good luck!
Mazal Tov on the wedding-to-be. Love your blog! It's So Very Interesting and your Way of typing is Unique and makes me Want to read it All. i'll get there. Sometime.
I wanted to do Vegas and was overruled, so that gets my vote. But if you decide to go local, the Silent Movie Theatre is pretty awesome.
From what I've seen, the weddings at the Inn of the 7th Ray are quite lovely. There was one in progress the last time I was dining there. As long as the weather is supportive, the view is divine.
Best of luck with the planning, and YAY for meeting you and the Totally Awesome Fiance last night. Through the beverage haze, I remember having a good time.
