They're Playing Our Song And I Don't Like It One Bit

Totally Awesome Boyfriend and I have to find A Song.

It seems every other couple has one. You know -- some sort of Sweet Melody that reminds them of A Special Time Here or There. Totally Awesome Boyfriend and I have had lots of Special Times. But, there has never been Any Song Playing at the time.

Well, that is Not Exactly True. There has been A Song Playing. It is just not A Romantic Song. Okay, it is Sort Of Romantic. But, it just doesn’t apply to Us. The Song?

September by Earth, Wind and Fire.

Sure, The Beat is Bouncy. The Tune will get your Toes Tapping. But, the Lyrics are Lacking!

Do you remember the 21st night of September?
Love was changing the minds of pretenders

While chasing the clouds away

Our hearts were ringing

In the key that our souls were singing.

As we danced in the night,

Remember how the stars stole the night away

Ba de ya - say do you remember

Ba de ya - dancing in September

Ba de ya - never was a cloudy day

My thoughts are with you

Holding hands with your heart to see you

Only blue talk and love,

Remember how we knew love was here to stay

Now December found the love that we shared in September.

Only blue talk and love,

Remember the true love we share today

Ba de ya - say do you remember

Ba de ya - dancing in September

Ba de ya - never was a cloudy day

Ba de ya - say do you remember

Ba de ya - dancing in September

Ba de ya - golden dreams were shiny days

Lovely, right? But, see, Totally Awesome Boyfriend and I didn’t Meet in September, so The Song Doesn’t Make Sense for us. Unfortunately, we hear it All The Time! It is On The Car Radio! We catch ear of it in An Elevator! They whistle it at A Wedding! Every time we Hear It, we get Excited thinking, “Hey! That’s Our Song!” And then We Remember… We Didn’t Dance Diddly In September. Not even on The 21st!

Still, I think The Universe is trying to Tell Us Something. This weekend, I even Downloaded The Dang Ditty off of iTunes. I figure, it will have to do until Some Sensational Song comes A’ singing to Us.

Or, at least until we remember to do Something Special in September, that we can Remember in December, for once and for all.

I kept joking with Brent that we needed a song, and joked that it should be "Oye Como Va." So....now everytime we hear it, I say, "Hey!" and he's like, "No!!!" So it's our unofficial song. ;)

May I suggest:

"Let's Talk Dirty to the Animals" (Gilda Radner)

"The Asshole Song" (Jimmy Buffett)

or

"Broken Hearts are for Assholes" (Frank Zappa)?

You're welcome.

Well, duh. Plan something romantic for the 21st of September, and then do it. (You listening, TAB?)

"Our" song- proclaimed such by him-is "Total Eclipse of the Heart", which I thought was weird when we were first dating, but now after two decades absolutely makes sense.

It's impossible to dance to, though.

Our song is Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir." Not romantic at all, and it's only our song because I had it set as Rick's ring tone on my old cell phone. However to this day, if either of us hears "Kashmir" on the radio (and it happens a fair amount since we listen to the classic rock station), we call the other. It's an ingrained thing now, since every time I heard "Kashmir" for a long time, it was Rick calling.

Yeah, just call me Pavlov's dog...that whole conditioned response is so true.

Maxa and I have a song, but it's too embarrassing to admit. Be thankful you DON'T have one.
