Another Reason To Love Bookstores

On Saturday Night, Totally Awesome Boyfriend and I were trying to figure out What To Do That Evening. We have both been So Busy preparing for Our Big Move – Selling Off Furniture, Packing Up Boxes, Changing Addresses – that we thought it might be Nice to Do Something Absolutely Brainless. And what could be More Brainless than A Trip To The Mall?! And so, We ventured off to The Trendy Los Angeles Mall/Paradise for An Early Dinner and some (Brainless) Walking Around Time.

Although we have been to The Trendy Los Angeles Mall/ Paradise many times before, this trip was especially Fun because we could Shop For Our New Abode! Well, Window Shop, at any rate. We are still trying to figure out How To Mesh Our Individual Decorating Styles into One Singular We Are A Couple Decorating Style, so we Bicker over topics like, “The Many Benefits Of The Shabby Chic Lifestyle!” and “Why Navy Blue is Too Dark For A Wall!” and “Things I May Or May Not Place On My Dresser!” Yes, The Dresser Debate is still A Hot Topic in our neck of the woods. Plus, we are really trying to be Careful how we Spend Our Money.

At some point, though, we got Tired of Pretending To Shop For Things We Can’t Afford and went to The Book Store. I love The Book Store because I Love To Read. But, more importantly, I Can Afford Most Books, and therefore can do some Real Shopping. As we approached The Second Level, Totally Awesome Boyfriend found himself Engrossed in Books About Coins and Comic Books. I meandered over to The Cook Books. I Don’t Cook, but I like The Pretty Pictures Of Food inside and always find myself Devouring Cook Books when in A Book Store. I stood there for A Few Minutes, admiring The Cupcake Covers, when out of the corner of my eye, I caught A Glimpse of Another Section – The Wedding Book Section. “Oooh!” I whispered. “I looooove That Section!” I can spend Hours and Hours and Hours scanning The Wedding Books. But, then I remembered – I was with Totally Awesome Boyfriend. I couldn’t let him see me Looking Through The Wedding Books. I didn’t want him to think I was Already Planning Our Wedding. (I hope My Venue is not booked already!). Or thinking about What I Will Wear. (Page 33, In Style Weddings!) Or, that I have Thought Anything At All About The Ceremony. (I want A Jewish Ceremony. We will Write Our Own Vows. No Wedding Party. Keep it Small and Elegant.) I don’t want him to Think I Think About Any Of This Stuff. After all, I have all My Wedding Magazines safely Hidden Away, under My Bed. And it seems Too Soon.

I glanced at The Coin And Comics Section. Totally Awesome Boyfriend was heavily into A Graphic Novel. Okay. I had Time to Look. Quickly, I sped over to The Table Of Books for a Look. Ahhh! Martha Stewart! A Whole Book on Celebrity Weddings! And, what’s This? A Book entitled, How To Have The Perfect Jewish Wedding? This one looks GOO-

“Hey.”

Startled, I jumped around. Totally Awesome Boyfriend was standing right behind me. I dropped My Jewish Wedding Book, quicker than you can say, “Mazel Tov!”

“What’s This?” said Totally Awesome Boyfriend, looking over The Wedding Book Table. He picked up A Book and ruffled the pages. His face wore A slight Grin.

“Um, Books?” I replied, Sheepishly. “I thought I was on A Covert Operation.”

“Uh, huh,” he said. And then: “Are you going to get That Book that you dropped on The Floor.”

“No.” I said, picking it up and Placing it Face Down on The Table.

We headed for The Escalator, towards The Store Exit, walking arm in arm. “Gosh, I am So Stupid,” I was thinking to myself.

But as we Headed Down, Totally Awesome Boyfriend whispered into my ear, “Someday, soon, you will need That Book, The Daily Randi.”

And after a moment he added, “I Promise.”

It's not just because I'm PMSing that I *totally* got tears in my eyes reading that. You guys are beautiful to each other.

(You know what would also be beautiful? If TAB had a blog ...)

(Of course you know I do wedding planning and make wedding dresses, right? I mean, not that we're geographically close by, but I can still offer you all sorts of FREE advice and stuff on email!) :)
